Book Reviews

Joel Maxey's book is exciting and captivating to read.

First, my reaction is like the author described about his colleagues, i.e., I wish I could have done something like that or I should have traveled along with the author.
It keeps you in with the author and the excitement of what is going to happen next.

If the author had taken a companion with him for the journey, it would not have been a voyage of discovery.

This book makes you want to examine your own travels and to wonder how rich the travels might have been had it not been with companions or tour groups.

It also renews the belief that trust in fellow human beings is rewarded most of the time.

The author's chronicle also points out that we worry too much unnecessarily and that solutions exist for even the toughest situations.

The author's memory of the people and their deeds wants you to meet people like that in your life.  I wish I could say that I also drove to South America once but I can only fantasize in Joel Maxey's "My Long Drive".

This is a must read book for young travelers wanting adventures and trying to discover themselves.

Joel Maxey drove alone from Detroit to Brazil in his Karman Ghia convertible. Events along the way were wonderful, unexpected, and enlightening.

These continual, daily episodes should captivate any reader looking for true adventure, first person narrative.

The experience for young Maxey was transformative. The narrative will demonstrate why it was so with lucidity, humor, and integrity.
